The YMCA of San Diego County confirmed to News 8 Wednesday the reduction of nearly half of their staff, totaling 2,047 employees. In a statement to News 8, the YMCA said it was a result of COVID-19 restrictions. "With a heavy heart, the YMCA of San Diego County can confirm the layoff of nearly half our total staff due to Covid-19 regulations and our inability to operate a majority of our programs. These layoffs were effective Jan. 12, 2021. Our staff is the heartbeat of our organization and we made multiple efforts to maintain all staff. We're hopeful that as we move into less-restrictive tiers, we'll be able to recover and reassemble our team."
